Artist
Denver, CO
I
am a self taught
watercolor artist based in Denver, Colorado. Growing up in the
rim rock canyons of western Colorado, I acquired a love for color and light. I paint what I know
and what I like hanging on my own walls--sandstone landscapes, cowboys and their
tools of the trade--horses, saddles, chaps and boots. My paintings tend
toward the sparse, reminders of the open landscapes of the west where you can
see for miles, unobstructed by trees. I have chosen the medium of
watercolor for its transparency and the feeling of freedom I get when I look at
a watercolor painting.
My venture into
this realm of creativity began after a visit to a
gallery in Durango, Colorado with my mom and sister. I commented that a picture had
been painted in the morning and the gallery owner asked if I was an artist. I said "No,
but I have always wanted to be." The gift of a set of
watercolors, several pads of paper and brushes were under the Christmas tree that
year. I looked at it and thought, "Isn't that nice; too bad I
can't paint." I looked at that gift for two weeks, all the time
God whispering to me, "Give it a try. Give it a try." Finally, I
agreed, thinking, "If I never put the brush in the water, then in the paint and
finally on the paper I will never know if I can do this." So began the
journey towards a lifelong wish to be an artist.
Underlying this is my solid belief that I am made in the image of God, the Sovereign
Creator. God has given me this gift for this time in my life and through my paintings, I hope to reflect in small
part His creative nature that we see all around us--proof of His unsurpassed power and His compassionate care
and amazing love for us.
I am an
accountant by day and an artist by night. There is nothing more relaxing for me than
to come home after a full day at work crunching numbers and pick up my brushes
and start painting. It truly is a gift and I do not intend to squander
it. Please look through the various things displayed here and let
your sense of color and shape be touched for a moment. Put aside your
cares for a moment and breathe in the freshness of God's creativity as He
has chosen to allow me to express it.
My work has been shown at The Art
Gallery at Lemon Sisters,
Starbucks, Big Sky
Event Center and is permanently on exhibit at the Thai Asian Grill in Arvada, Colorado.
